“Whispering Bandit” May Be Responsible For Multiple Bank Robberies, Robbery Attempts In Ventura County

Posted on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 3:31pm

Authorities say a man they have dubbed the “Whispering Bandit” may be responsible for multiple bank robberies, and robbery attempts in Ventura County.

A man tried, but failed to rob a Wells Fargo Bank Branch in Ventura Tuesday morning, and a short time later a suspect matching the same general description robbed a Citibank branch in Port Hueneme.  Following the Ventura robbery at around 10:45, nearby Will Rogers School was locked down as a precaution for about an hour.

The FBI is trying to determine if the same man might be responsible for the robbery of an Oxnard Citibank branch last week.  No one was hurt in any of the robberies.

The man behind the Oxnard robbery was dubbed the “Whispering Bandit” because he was so soft spoken during the robbery.
