Brown Takes Budget Battle to YouTube

Posted on Monday, June 13, 2011 7:28am

California lawmakers are running out of time to reach a budget deal before Wednesday’s constitutional deadline. And Governor Jerry Brown says there will be a budget vote Wednesday – one way or another.

In a clip posted on YouTube Sunday night, Brown said, “we have a plan, and it’s a very good plan. And it’ll put California’s finances on a firm footing for many, many years to come. But what we don’t have are the four Republican votes necessary to put it to a vote of the people of California.”

In the video, Brown says he’s “perplexed” at how hard it’s been to reach a deal.

The major hang-up at this point appears to be whether to extend several tax increases until a fall special election or have them expire at the end of this month.

Talks continued over the weekend, and the Senate and Assembly are scheduled to meet Monday afternoon.
