Governor Returns After Surgery

Posted on Thursday, May 12, 2011 7:56am

California Governor Jerry Brown is back at the Capitol nearly two weeks after he underwent minor surgery to remove a skin cancer from his nose.

Evan Westrup in the governor’s press office says Brown worked from his home in Oakland while he recovered. “The boss has never really gone away. In fact, he’s been actively engaged and working throughout the past couple weeks,” says Westrup.

Brown hasn’t made a public appearance since the procedure. But he’ll be back in the spotlight on Monday, when he releases an updated budget proposal known as the “May Revise.”

Late last month, doctors removed basal carcinoma cells from the right side of the 73-year-old governor’s nose. The procedure also involved some reconstructive surgery. Westrup says the governor is wearing a bandage on his nose now that the stitches have been removed.
