Sacramento Goes To The Frogs

State lawmakers took time Wednesday for an annual tradition: the Capitol frog jump.

Republican Senator Ted Gaines put his reputation behind his frog “Tax Cutting Toad.” Gaines’s district includes Calaveras County, which is home to the Jumping Frog Jubilee later this month.

Democratic Assemblyman Jim Beall says his frog – the Incredible Hulk – made a poor showing. Next year he’ll try tickling it. But there’s one strategy he won’t use: “no, I don’t want to kiss him. I think that might be a problem because if my wife saw me do that she would never kiss me again.”

The winning jumper came from Senate GOP Leader Bob Dutton’s office. The frog named “Unicorn” hopped ten-and-a-half feet.

Public radio reporter Ben Adler jumped a frog nicknamed Nina “TOAD-enberg” and tied for the shortest hop of the day.
