Sacramento Keeps Kings…For Now

Posted on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 5:39am

The Sacramento Kings will be staying in Sacramento for at least one more season.
The Maloof Family, which has owned the team since 1999, announced this morning that it will not file a petition with the National Basketball Association to move the team to Anaheim.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says the Maloofs told him this morning that the team will stay next season.  But he says they want to see real progress towards financing a new arena within the next year.
Johnson says developers are working on a feasibility study for a new sports and entertainment complex.  He says it will almost certainly be financed by a mix of private and public money.   The feasibility study will be finished later this month.
