Eleven California law enforcement personnel lost their lives last year. Monday, hundreds of police officers and sheriff’s deputies from around the state gathered at the Capitol to remember them.
One by one, Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Wayne Quint read the names of the 11 California peace officers who died in the line of duty in 2010. State Supreme Court Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye was among the public officials who spoke. Cantil-Sakauye said, “When you have beloved ones in law enforcement, questions like how is your day and how are you doing and how are you feeling take on greater import.”
The solemn ceremony included the release of a white dove for each of the fallen officers and a 21-gun salute.
